About Torpor Orb
Torpor Orb, Artifact, designed by Svetlin Velinov first released in May, 2011 in the set New Phyrexia and was printed exactly in 6 different ways. It see play in 1 formats: Commander. It's a key card in 2 combos.
A deck that focuses on controlling the board and preventing opponents from gaining value from creature abilities, such as a Stax or Prison deck, would benefit from using Torpor Orb. While Torpor Orb is a strong choice for shutting down creature-triggered abilities, there are other similar cards like Hushwing Gryff or Hushbringer that offer additional effects or better stats for the same cost, making them potentially better options depending on the specific strategy of the deck. Torpor Orb could see play in certain metas where creature abilities are prevalent, but its effectiveness may vary depending on the overall game plan of the deck.
Rules
06/01/11
Abilities that create replacement effects, such as a permanent entering the battlefield tapped or with counters on it, are unaffected.
06/01/11
Look at the permanent as it exists on the battlefield, taking into account continuous effects, to determine whether any triggered abilities will trigger. For example, if you control March of the Machines, which says, in part, “Each noncreature artifact is an artifact creature,” Torpor Orb will be a creature when it enters the battlefield and will not cause triggered abilities to trigger.
06/01/11
Torpor Orb stops a creature’s own enters-the-battlefield triggered abilities as well as other triggered abilities that would trigger when a creature enters the battlefield.
