Een kaartspel gericht op zwarte vampierwezens met een hoge dichtheid aan zwarte kaarten in het kaartspel zou het meeste baat hebben bij het opnemen van Vampire Nocturnus, omdat het de wezens een aanzienlijke krachtboost en ontwijking biedt. Er zijn echter betere kaarten zoals Sorin, Imperious Bloodlord of Captivating Vampire die veelzijdigere en impactvollere vaardigheden bieden voor Vampire-stamdecks, waardoor Vampire Nocturnus minder snel in competitieve Magic: the Gathering-formaten wordt gespeeld.
