Zap, Instant, designed by John Matson first released in May, 2020 in the set Invasion.
Zap is a great addition to aggressive red decks or spell-slinger archetypes that focus on dealing direct damage while maintaining card advantage. Its low cost and ability to both deal damage and draw a card make it versatile, especially in decks that utilize spells to control the board or finish off opponents. However, there are arguably better options like Lightning Bolt, which deals 3 damage for just 1 R, providing more immediate impact for a similar mana cost, or cards like Shock for a cheaper alternative that still fits in a budget. Despite this, Zap can still see play in niche builds where card draw is crucial, particularly in formats that value spells and synergy over raw damage output.
