About Maelstrom Pulse
Maelstrom Pulse, Sorcery, designed by John Avon first released in May, 2020 in the set Magic Online Promos and was printed exactly in 14 different ways. It see play in 1 formats: Commander.
A deck that aims to control the board by removing key threats and disrupting the opponent's strategy would benefit from including Maelstrom Pulse. While it is a versatile card that can deal with multiple threats at once, there are other options like Assassin's Trophy that provide similar removal at instant speed, making them more flexible and efficient in certain situations. Maelstrom Pulse could still see play in decks that value its specific ability to deal with multiple copies of the same permanent, but its inclusion would depend on the overall strategy and card choices of the deck.
Rules
08/07/20
Maelstrom Pulse has only one target. Other permanents with the same name will be destroyed even if they have hexproof or protection.
08/07/20
The name of a token is the same as the subtypes it was created with unless the token is a copy of another permanent or the effect that created the token specifically gives it a different name. For example, a 1/1 red Elemental creature token created by Young Pyromancer and a 4/4 green Elemental creature token created by Walker of the Grove are both named “Elemental.”
