About Contract Killing
Contract Killing, Sorcery, designed by Winona Nelson first released in Sep, 2017 in the set Ixalan and was printed exactly in 2 different ways.
A deck that focuses on generating mana quickly and efficiently, such as a black-based control or midrange deck, would benefit from including Contract Killing. The ability to destroy a creature while also creating two Treasure tokens provides both removal and ramp potential. However, there are better options available, such as Murder or Vraska's Contempt, which offer more immediate removal without the need to ramp. Contract Killing could see play in budget decks or in a specific strategy that values the Treasure tokens, but it may not be a top choice in more competitive environments.
Rules
09/29/17
If the target creature is an illegal target by the time Contract Killing resolves, the entire spell doesn’t resolve. You won’t get Treasures. If, on the other hand, the target is a legal target but isn’t destroyed (most likely because it has indestructible), you’ll get Treasures.
