About Zoo Escapees
Zoo Escapees, Creature — boar rhino, designed by Mirko Failoni first released in Feb, 2026 in the set Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Zoo Escapees fits best in a green midrange or +1/+1 counters–focused deck that can reliably sacrifice or blink its own creatures to profit from the Mutagen token, making it reasonable in Golgari sacrifice, Selesnya counters, or grindy value shells that want incremental resources when creatures die; however, the rate is modest, since paying 1G for a creature that only replaces itself with a delayed +1/+1 counter (and requiring extra mana to use it) is fairly low impact compared to stronger options like Strangleroot Geist (better aggression and resilience), Young Wolf (cheaper undying body for sacrifice decks), or cards like Winding Constrictor and Conclave Mentor that scale counters more explosively, and in formats with higher power levels it would likely be outclassed by more efficient threats or value engines, so it would mainly see play in Limited, budget builds, or very synergy-driven casual decks rather than competitive Constructed formats.
