Wretched Banquet, Sorcery, designed by Nils Hamm first released in Feb, 2009 in the set Conflux.
A deck focused on controlling the board by manipulating power levels of creatures, such as a mono-black control or sacrifice deck, would benefit from including Wretched Banquet. While it can be a situational removal spell, there are more versatile options like Fatal Push or Murder that are generally more efficient and reliable, making Wretched Banquet less likely to see play in competitive Magic: the Gathering decks.

Wretched Banquet may target any creature. The creature’s power is checked only as Wretched Banquet resolves. If another creature has less power than the targeted creature at that time, Wretched Banquet does nothing.
