This card would be beneficial in a control deck that aims to disrupt the opponent's board state by creating copies of their key creatures. However, in a competitive Magic: the Gathering environment, there are better options like Clever Impersonator or Phyrexian Metamorph, which provide more versatility and value for a similar mana cost. Elminster's Simulacrum may not see much play due to its limited scope compared to these other options.
