Blood Pet could be a valuable addition to a black mana ramp or combo deck in Magic: the Gathering, allowing for quick access to additional black mana by sacrificing it. However, more efficient cards like Dark Ritual or Cabal Ritual may be better options for fast mana generation, making Blood Pet less likely to see play in competitive decks unless there is a specific synergy or combo that requires its unique ability.

Because combat damage resolves immediately after it is assigned, you cannot sacrifice Blood Pet in between assigning and dealing combat damage. The last chance you have to sacrifice it before combat damage is dealt is during the Declare Blockers step.
