Witch Engine, Creature — horror, designed by Kev Walker first released in Oct, 1998 in the set Urza's Saga and was printed exactly in 2 different ways.
Witch Engine would be most beneficial in a black control deck that focuses on swamp synergy and resource denial. While the card offers a significant mana advantage, the drawback of potentially losing control of it to an opponent may limit its effectiveness. Other cards like Phyrexian Arena or Liliana of the Veil may provide more consistent value in a control deck and would likely be better choices for competitive play.

Because the ability is targeted, it is not a mana ability. It can only be activated when you have priority, and goes on the stack like other non-mana abilities.
