While the card provides a temporary boost of vigilance to other creatures upon entering the battlefield, there are potentially better options like Benalish Marshal or Thalia, Guardian of Thraben that offer more consistent and impactful abilities. However, Loxodon Sergeant could still see play in certain strategies that require a temporary boost in vigilance for a crucial turn.
