About Pharagax Giant
Pharagax Giant, Creature — giant, designed by Ryan Pancoast first released in Feb, 2014 in the set Born of the Gods.
Pharagax Giant would be a strong addition to a red aggressive deck looking to apply pressure and deal damage quickly, especially against multiple opponents in a multiplayer game. While it can be a powerful finisher if the tribute is not paid, there are potentially better options like Stormbreath Dragon or Thundermaw Hellkite that offer more immediate impact and evasion. However, Pharagax Giant could still see play in certain metagames or strategies that benefit from its unique ability to punish opponents for not paying tribute.
Rules
02/01/14
If the opponent pays tribute, the creature will enter the battlefield with the specified number of +1/+1 counters on it. It won’t enter the battlefield and then have the +1/+1 counters placed on it.
02/01/14
If the triggered ability has a target, that target will not be known while the creature spell with tribute is on the stack.
02/01/14
The triggered ability will resolve even if the creature with tribute isn’t on the battlefield at that time.
