Surly Farrier fits best in a go-wide Selesnya (green-white) creature deck that wants lots of small creatures on board and benefits from incremental combat boosts—especially in Limited or very low-powered casual formats where repeatable +1/+1 and vigilance can help push damage while keeping blockers up. However, at two mana for a 1/1 with a tap ability that only works at sorcery speed, it’s quite underpowered by modern standards; cards like **Conclave Mentor**, **Intrepid Adversary**, **Luminarch Aspirant**, or even **Travel Preparations** provide far stronger and more efficient ways to grow your board, while **Thalia’s Lieutenant** (in tribal) or **Good-Fortune Unicorn** offer scalable counters with better stats.
