Bartered Cow could be a valuable addition to a white-based midrange or control deck in Magic: the Gathering that focuses on generating value through sacrificing or discarding creatures. While it may not be a top-tier card, it could find a home in a deck that utilizes Food tokens for life gain synergies or as a way to trigger other effects. Other cards like Cauldron Familiar or Woe Strider might offer more consistent value, but Bartered Cow could still see play in the right deck looking to capitalize on its unique abilities.

Bartered Cow’s ability is a triggered ability, not an activated ability. It doesn’t allow you to discard it or sacrifice it whenever you want; rather, you need some other way of discarding it or causing it to die.

You can’t sacrifice a Food token to pay multiple costs. For example, you can’t sacrifice a Food token to activate its own ability and also to activate the ability of Tempting Witch.
