About Venser's Journal
Venser's Journal, Artifact, designed by Christopher Moeller first released in Oct, 2010 in the set Scars of Mirrodin and was printed exactly in 3 different ways.
A control or midrange deck that focuses on card advantage and life gain would benefit from using Venser's Journal, as it allows for a larger hand size and provides incremental life gain each turn. While there may be better options for specific strategies, such as Necropotence for pure card draw or Sphinx's Revelation for life gain and card draw, Venser's Journal can still be a solid inclusion in decks looking to grind out value over the long game.
Rules
01/01/11
If multiple effects modify your hand size, apply them in timestamp order. For example, if you put Null Profusion (an enchantment that says your maximum hand size is two) onto the battlefield and then put Venser’s Journal onto the battlefield, you’ll have no maximum hand size. However, if those permanents enter the battlefield in the opposite order, your maximum hand size would be two.
