Bat'leth fits best in a black-based, creature-heavy midrange or aggressive Commander deck that can use its enter-the-battlefield -2/-2 effect as removal for small utility creatures while turning an evasive or combat-focused creature into a faster clock; it is particularly reasonable in Equipment-matters shells with ways to recur, tutor, or reduce equip costs. However, at three mana plus two to equip for only +2/+0, it is generally below the rate expected in competitive Constructed and most optimized Commander lists: Basilisk Collar, Shadowspear, and Sword of the Animist provide stronger repeatable utility, while Bone Splinters-style removal, Fatal Push, Go for the Throat, or Feed the Swarm are more efficient if removal is the goal. Even within Equipment strategies, Lightning Greaves and Swiftfoot Boots usually protect a key creature more effectively, and premium Equipment such as Skullclamp or the various Swords of X and Y creates substantially more advantage.
