This Aethersquall Ancient card would be beneficial in a control deck that focuses on stalling the game and maintaining board control. Its ability to generate energy counters and then use them to bounce all other creatures can be a powerful way to reset the battlefield and disrupt your opponent's strategy. However, there are other cards like Cyclonic Rift that offer a similar effect at a lower cost and with more flexibility, making them potentially better options for competitive play. Aethersquall Ancient could still see play in more casual or themed decks where its unique abilities can shine.

Energy counters aren’t mana. They don’t go away as steps, phases, and turns end, and effects that add mana “of any type” to your mana pool can’t give you energy counters.

Keep careful track of how many energy counters each player has. You may do so by keeping a running count on paper, by using a die, or by any other clear and mutually agreeable method.
