About Humpback Whales

Humpback Whales, Creature — whale, designed by Evan Shipard first released in Aug, 2026 in the set Star Trek.

Humpback Whales would mainly benefit a casual blue sea-creature/whale tribal deck or a slow Limited deck that needs both an early land-finder and a late defensive threat: basic landcycling helps make land drops, while vigilance and ward make it a reasonably safe attacker/blocker once cast. In constructed formats, though, a six-mana creature is a very high price for this effect, and it is generally outclassed by `Lorien Revealed`, which finds an Island for only `{1}` via islandcycling and can later draw three cards, or by more efficient land-ramp, card selection, and finishers appropriate to the format. Unless its power and toughness are unusually exceptional or the deck has a specific whale/creature-type payoff, Humpback Whales probably should not see competitive play; it is best treated as a flavorful casual inclusion or a Limited role-player.
