Mirkwood Pathmaker fits best in a green ramp or landfall deck, especially one that can consistently make extra land drops with cards like Cultivate, Azusa, Lost but Seeking, or Rampant Growth, since it will quickly become larger than its three-mana cost suggests; it is also more appealing in multiplayer Commander, where a 6/6 or larger for \(2G\) is realistic. However, it lacks trample, evasion, protection, or any immediate value, so it is easy to chump-block or remove. In a mono-green deck, **Dungrove Elder** is usually better: it costs the same, scales with your Forest count, and has hexproof, making it far harder to answer; for multicolor land decks, Pathmaker’s ability to count all lands is an advantage, but it is still mostly a casual or budget option. It could see play in Limited, casual ramp, or Commander decks that want inexpensive large creatures, but it is unlikely to be strong enough for competitive Constructed formats unless the environment heavily rewards simple land-count
