A deck that focuses on cheating out big creatures quickly, such as Reanimator or Stompy decks, would benefit from using Phyrexian Dreadnought. While it requires some setup to avoid its sacrifice effect, the potential for a 12/12 trampling creature for just 1 mana can be a game-winning threat. However, there are better cards for similar strategies, such as Emrakul, the Aeons Torn or Griselbrand, which provide immediate impact without the drawback of needing additional creatures to sacrifice. If you are unable to sacrifice 12 power worth of creatures, then you cannot choose that option; in that case, you must sacrifice Phyrexian Dreadnought.

Reverted to its original wording, this now has an enters-the-battlefield triggered ability. During resolution of the triggered ability, you choose one option or the other.
